How to create a classroom environment that is welcoming to all sources of backgrounds and identities? Here are some strategies that I have been implementing during my international school teaching years and demonstrated to be effective. And those are simple ideas that can be replicated in any school around the world. Here they are:
Creating a Sense of Belonging
Welcome rituals: Start each day with a welcoming ritual that acknowledges and celebrates the diverse backgrounds of your students. Whether it's a multicultural greeting, a moment of reflection, or a sharing circle, these rituals set the tone for inclusivity and connection.
Culturally responsive teaching: Infuse your curriculum with diverse perspectives, voices, and experiences. Incorporate literature, art, music, and history from different cultures, ensuring that every student sees themselves reflected in the curriculum.
